Apatelodes torrefacta

Having never seen one of these amazing fluffy critters before I was completely fascinated. I think I took close to 100 photos. It was so difficult to get one that was in focus. The images below are a few of my favorites. I was able to identify it as Apatelodes torrefacta.

  1. Beautiful photographs! I find it fascinating as well. And who knows such a beauty can be very painful.

  2. Thank you! I had no idea that it would be painful while I was photographing it - glad I didn't touch it during the process!

  5. Oh...don't you just want to cuddle that little fuzzy bear?! We have some similar but not that hairy...I wonder if he would be the same type, if he had a haircut :)

Now, aren't we funny? I do the same thing with my fingers and camera - SO MANY pictures of one little thing that interests us so. It's just so exciting.

Hope that you don't have the trouble that I do in choosing which ones to share. That's almost a crazy frustration of mine at times :)

  19. Whoa, that's a crazy awesome caterpillar! We have buckmoth caterpillars here EVERYWHERE during the spring, but they are not nearly as cute, and they HURT if you step on one or touch it.
